Over the past year plus, I have been using Corsair Vengeance LED (White) DDR4 3200MHz ram. When Ryzen originally came out, that ram would only run at 2133Mhz. After many BIOS later, I was able to run it at 2933Mhz. Still not happy, as I originally paid for 3200MHz ram, I decided to purchase the Patriot Viper Gaming RGB Series DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz 16GB Kit.Although no notes have been made on this specific RAM, I decided to buy because all of the great reviews I've seen on it recently. Review sites stated that it's great overclocking RAM with reviewers being able to get it to 3400-3600MHz. One putting it into my system, I enabled XMP settings which set the RAM to 3200MHz. Once I click on save and restart, I assume that I would get an error as it did previously as 3200MHz / XMP would not work with my Corsair RAM. Surprisingly, it did boot, and it didn't crash after running many benchmarks. I won't be overclocking the RAM as I'm super happy that it runs at the full 3200MHz rated speed. As a plus, the Viper sticks look great and the RGB software which can be downloaded on their website is easy to use. Memory works great. Overclocking nicely in my ryzen build. RGB controls by software you download. Has multiple effects you can choose from. I would buy it again.
First off I was impressed with how easy it is to overclock this ram. The RGB is fantastic but there was one problem the quality of the heat shield. When I opened up the package I noticed one of the head shields was not seated properly on the ram stick itself. It looks like it is bent and it doesn't secure all the way on the top of the ram. Although it doesn't affect the ram itself it does not look good with the heat shield spread on the top of the ram when seated on the motherboard.UPDATE:Received a replacement kit and the heat shield is seated to perfection. Thanks Amazon for great customer service!
One of the sticks was faulty. I first noticed when the RGB wouldn't actually sync. Then I checked System Information and realized it only recognized 8 GB! So I went through a battery of tests & checks:1) Turned off the computer and removed then reinstalled. Didn't work, and in fact for the system had a harder time even posting.2) Removed the one faulty stick to see if there might have been an issue with both, and computer booted up fine (albeit with only the 8GB).Then to test whether or not it was the specific DIMM on my motherboard:3) I moved the faulty stick and to the DIMM where the working stick was to see if I could boot without any issues that way--didn't work. Crashed within a minute of logging into Windows multiple times4) I then switched the working stick to the DIMM where the faulty one was, booted up with that alone, and it worked without any noticeable issues.So in conclusion, clearly it was the one stick that was the problem. Very disappointed. I haven't bought Patriot RAM in a long time specifically because I've had issues with them in the past. Thought I'd give them another shot, and then this happens. Perhaps just bad luck but disappointed all the same. Already ordered replacement RAM from another brand.
